Clove Toothaches
It’s one of the worst pains humans experience; toothaches. And now that doctors are leery of prescribing pain medications, over the counter medicines are what folks rely on. But there’s hope. When a toothache hits, apply clove oil to the affected area. Clove contains an active ingredient which numbs the nerves, providing a temporary form of pain relief.
Squeeze Away Headaches
Tension headaches are painful. Many times, sufferers don’t realize the pain may originate in tense muscles. To fight a tension headache, have a friend give you a very strong back rub, applying as much pressure as you can tolerate to the shoulders, and then squeezing the back of the neck muscles between the fingers. The massage should be deep and penetrating. Massage the base of the skull as well. This releases the tension and fights the headache.
Freeze Pulled Muscles
When someone experiences a pulled or strained muscle, the pain can be very uncomfortable. Isolating the area is the best option to restrict movement of the affected muscles and tendons. Sometimes this requires a brace, but pushing through the pain isn’t advised. While many people may reach for heating pads, adding heat to an already inflamed area may not be the best option. Use ice instead.
Relocate Shoulders with Soup
Do you suffer from shoulders which dislocate easily? Tendons can become weak over time and need to tighten up to work properly. To tighten up those muscles and tendons, get a can of soup and, using the internet, look up shoulder exercises using cans. There are a lot of them online and something as simple as exercising with low weights will tighten up loose shoulder tendons and return the shoulders to proper working order, helping to prevent painful dislocations.
Yoga Cramps Away
Menstrual cramps are quite painful but instead of turning to over-the-counter pain medications, the best way to treat the cramping and discomfort, and avoid medicinal side effects, is with yoga. A recent review of 15 research studies suggested yoga can reduce the severity of symptoms and pain in women suffering from agonizing menstrual cycles associated with PMS.
Steaming at a Cough
Coughing can be painful for lungs, ribs, and chest muscles. To relieve a cough, one of the best ways is to use steam. While a hot shower can get a bit steamy, there’s a better way than getting all wet. Simply boil water, move the pot of steaming water to a safe area, cover your head with a towel and allow the towel to drape over the pot. Voila! Steam on demand! Steam moistens the sinuses, reduces the sinus drip which often leads to coughing, and stimulates secretions which helps decrease inflammation and pain in the lungs.
Home Grown Lotion
Aloe Vera gel, straight from the plant, is one of the greatest ways to relieve a myriad of painful skin conditions. The plant can be grown in the home as a renewable source for pain relief from sunburn, rashes, cuts and scrapes, and chronic skin conditions such as dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, and vitiligo. Just cut a leaf open, and apply. It’s that simple.
Heal Emotions with Sunny Days
Emotional pain is unavoidable in life, but instead of taking a pill, go sunbathing instead. Spending a little time in the sun, connecting with nature, and putting life into perspective can help ease the discomfort and pain of grief, sorrow, and regret. When we are in the sun, our body produces Vitamin D. Vitamin D is necessary for the absorption of Calcium and the proper use of Magnesium, two elements which the body uses to quiet our nerves and help us get through difficult times in our lives.
Walk Away from Back Pain
Back pain can be the worst! The problem might not be in your back, but rather, in your feet! Shoes which do not have proper arches can cause one’s gait to be abnormal, putting undue pressure on knees, hips and especially the back. We know they’re not very fashionable but we recommend getting shoes with a cork bed, such as a good pair of Birkenstocks. As one foot specialist once said, “If everyone wore Birkenstocks I’d be out of a job!”
