Born in 1932, she had an abusive, drunken father, who she later forgave. She had scoliosis, which caused her back pain from childhood. In her movie career, she broke many bones, had an accident that nearly blinded her, and had dozens of operations. In 1961, she almost died from pneumonia. Elizabeth Taylor called herself “a living example of what people can go through and survive.”
