Green With Relief
A recent study in Arizona found that the colour green can help relieve migraine pain. Yes, the colour green helped ease migraine pain. Patients found pain relief after a few weeks of daily exposure to green light. This study follows another that found that rats exposed to green light had a lower pain response. It’s unknown why this works, but it may go back to our roots. We were made to live outside in the garden with the trees. It is not unexpected that being surrounded by greenery makes you feel better. Green plants help you find your place in the world. So get green to relieve pain.
Exercise Your Eyes
We all know physical activity is good for the heart, lungs, muscles, and mind, but it’s also good for the eyes. Regular physical activity is linked with less age-related vision loss due to macular degeneration. It doesn’t even have to be large amounts of exercise. What matters most with exercise is that it’s a regular part of your routine. Get a vision for exercise.
Hearing with Your Eyes
Researchers in Oregon found that eyes respond to sounds. By watching owls, researchers found that the owls’ pupils dilated in response to sound. They tested this on humans and found that the human pupil also responds to sounds.
Clean Your Mask
If you have a reusable face mask, it is relatively easy to keep it sanitary. If it’s fabric, it can be washed on a sanitizing cycle if your washing machine has that setting. An even easier alternative is to leave it out in the sun for a day. After a day anywhere, the number of virus particles on the mask declines a lot, but the sun’s UV rays kill even more. Ideally, use three masks and rotate them every day. One thing to know is bacteria survive on masks longer than the virus. If a mask is damp, bacteria can live for days. You can also spray masks with sanitizer or hydrogen peroxide, but make sure to let them dry for an hour before using them.
Sunlight in Your Gut
A team of researchers in BC found that sunlight changes your gut farm. The natural bacteria in your gut that help you digest food and keep you in top form change with exposure to sunlight. We know that vitamin D can help your gut farm, and now we understand that getting a little sunshine can positively impact your gut farm. As the days get shorter, don’t forget to let the sun shine in.
Take 90
When we are hit with rude comments, or a flat tire, or another setback, it triggers a chemical reaction in the brain. We might immediately feel fear or anger. There’s not much you can do about this biological response. What you can control is how you feel after 90 seconds. If someone is rude, wait 90 seconds for the flood of brain chemicals to pass. Then, choose how to respond with your higher brain rather than your reptile brain. The first 90 seconds are biology---the next 90 minutes depend on your choices. You can set the tone for your emotions. Dial in gratitude, love, and happiness.
