Parting Shot

A gifted Cree buffalo hunter, he became a leader of the nation. He was instrumental in negotiating Treaty 6. Although outnumbered in the NW Rebellion Battle of Cut Knife Hill, his forces prevailed---but he convinced his warriors not to pursue and kill the defeated soldiers, saving many lives. His eyes were set on peace. After the NW Rebellion, he was unjustly imprisoned and released shortly before he died. Chief Poundmaker served his people and gave his life for the cause of peace.
