Purify Your Life with Berberine

Berberine is a herbal extract with important health benefits.

Blood purifier

Plants containing berberine have been used for over 3,000 years. Barberries, the first known source of berberine, were used as blood-purifying agents.

Scavenger

Berberine is good at clearing out harmful molecules that damage cells. These damaging molecules are similar to rust damaging metal. Berberine is an antioxidant that combats these molecules. It is as strong as vitamin C, which is known to be an excellent antioxidant.

Hearth health

Heart strength

Berberine benefits the heart-pumping ability in patients with cardiac failure. It also seems to benefit those who have narrowing arteries. It activates signalling molecules that reduce inflammation triggers. It also helps the inner lining of the blood vessels relax, promoting blood flow.

Lowers heart inflammation

Experiments with berberine also show it can lower heart muscle inflammation (myocarditis). It does this by preventing antibodies that seem to attack the heart muscles.

Cholesterol benefits

Berberine improves the fat profile of the blood, lowering bad fats. It lowers bad cholesterol by about half as much as a prescription statin. It also increases the good kind of cholesterol.

Diabetic

Kidney health

Diabetes can lead to reduced kidney function, as high blood sugar damages areas with many tiny blood vessels. The kidneys are a prime target of this type of damage. The benefit of berberine for improving kidney function in diabetics may be due to its antioxidant properties and anti-inflammatory process. In addition to kidneys, berberine has been shown to reduce inflammation in the liver.

Kidney protection

Berberine also seems to protect the kidneys. In a study with mice, some mice were given berberine, and some were not. All mice were then given toxic chemicals. The mice on berberine had much better kidney function than those that were not given berberine. It has also been shown to reduce chemo drugs’ toxic effects on the kidneys.

Lowers blood sugar

One of berberine’s most potent effects is lowering blood sugar levels. A lot of scientific research supports using berberine to lower blood sugar. Not only does it lower blood sugar, but 1,500 mg of daily berberine has also been shown to be as effective as metformin, the most common medication to manage blood sugar. It also lowers the HbA1c marker that diabetics monitor by up to a ½ point.

How to use

The best way to use berberine to lower blood sugar is to take it at the beginning of a high-carb meal. If you take a 500 mg dose of berberine, your blood sugar will be lower than if you didn’t take it. Start taking small doses of berberine. Start with 200-300 mg before a meal. If you are having success with that, you can work up to 500 mg before every meal that includes carbs. A daily dose is 1,500 mg a day.

What to watch for

If your blood sugar is already low, taking berberine will lower it even more, which might cause a nasty headache. Like almost any new herb you start taking, it can cause an upset stomach. Because it is a powerful herb for reducing blood sugar, it can be dangerous in high doses, especially for an insulin-dependent diabetic. Also, because it is a herb with wide-ranging effects, it can interact with some drugs, so check with your doctor.

Ancient purifier

Berberine has been known for 3,000 years as a blood purifier. Today, many scientific studies show it cleans the blood by lowering cholesterol and protecting the kidneys and the liver, which filter the blood. It also has a strong effect on lowering blood sugar. Never stop taking a prescription without consulting your doctor, but berberine may work as well as some prescriptions.
