A Cool Night’s Sleep

Keeping cool is vital to a good night’s sleep. If it’s too hot, we’ll toss and turn, never getting comfortable enough to sleep through the night. Temperature affects how much rest we get, and cooler rooms help.

Temperature Matters

Setting the thermostat between 15 and 19 °C (60—67 °F) is the sweet spot for staying cool overnight. Lowering the thermostat a notch or two helps us relax and maintain a lower body temperature, which aids sleep.

Stay Cool in Bed

Breathable sheets made from cotton or bamboo let air circulate, keep moisture away and cool the skin. Lightweight blankets avoid trapping body heat so we don’t get sweaty. Cooling pillows and a mattress topper made with gel also help get rid of too much heat in the bed.

Easy Breezy Room Reset

Blocking out sunlight helps keep the bedroom cool, too. Closing the blinds and curtains during the day lowers the temperature of the room, making it easier and quicker to cool down before going to sleep. Using fans, especially ceiling fans, creates a nice breeze throughout the room.

Bedtime Behaviors

Taking a cool shower before bed can cool us down and make us fall asleep easier. Putting away our phones and other electronics also gets us away from all the light that disturbs our sleep.

Beat the Heat and Sleep

We can all use a better night’s sleep, and there are things we can do to make it happen. Keeping our beds, rooms, and bodies cool before we call it a night gives us a chance to sleep better. Waking up rested and refreshed will be a welcome reward.
